The Band

Delph Band was formed in 1850 and has existed in some form ever since. The Band is now firmly established in the North West Second Section. Over the years rehearsal rooms have included the printers shop, the Bell Inn and Wesleyan Chapel with a proviso the band play when required. The Band used Delph Mechanics Institute before moving to its own band room in Lawton Square in 1954. Many contest successes including North West championships, Manchester District Champions, Pontins and Butlins victories, the First Saddleworth Band to have won the National Championship of Great Britain (now twice!). The Band has been involved with several prestigious engagements including; the Commonwealth Games, a Concert for Prince Edward and TV appearances in Brassed Off and Coronation Street. The band currently has a thriving Youth and Training Band to secure future of banding in Delph.
